How we rank search results on Budna

How Search Results Are Ranked

When you search on Budna, results are ranked based on how well they match your search terms. Title matches are weighted most heavily, followed by tags, description, and category name.
Sellers can pay for visibility in two ways: priority, chosen when a listing is published, and a boost, bought for a set number of days or for the rest of the listing period. Paid placement does not override relevance: results are first grouped into bands of comparable relevance to your search, and placement only decides the order inside a band. A paid listing can therefore rise above listings that match your search about as well, but not above listings that match it better. Priority and a boost add together, so a listing carrying both ranks above a listing carrying either. When you browse without entering a search term there is nothing for listings to be more or less relevant to, so paid placement decides more of the order than it otherwise would. Both apply when results are sorted by relevance; a boost also applies to Newest, Ending soon and Most viewed, while priority does not; neither applies when you sort by price. Paid placement is labelled on the listing so you can tell it from an organic result.

Sorting Options

You can change how results are sorted using the sorting controls. Available options: Relevance (default), Price (low to high or high to low), Newest first, Most viewed, and Ending soon for auctions.

Factors That Do Not Affect Ranking

The following have no influence on how search results are ranked: the seller's country of origin, their number of previous sales, and the age of their account. A subscription does not rank a listing either — but some tiers include credits that can pay for priority, and priority does affect ranking as described above.

Search Filters

Filters like category, item condition, price range, listing type, and market narrow your results but do not change the ranking order of matching items.
For better matching across Swedish, Norwegian, and English, we use multilingual semantic search that understands the meaning of your query, not just exact keyword matches.
